The Department of Biotechnology (DBT - www.dbtindia.nic.in) Government of India has
a major programme for promotion of biotechnology in the 8 north eastern states of the
country namely Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland,
Tripura and Sikkim.

Biotechnology has a direct bearing on healthcare, agriculture & food, energy and
environment. This presents a huge potential for enterprises to be set up to
commercialize science for the benefit of mankind.

The North East region of India has a talent pool of students in the Life Sciences that can
be encouraged to think of Entrepreneurship as a career option thereby generating
employment and contributing to the economic development of the region and the
country.

DBT has mandated ABLE - Association of Biotechnology Led Enterprises
(www.ableindia.in) - a national forum that represents the Indian Biotech Sector to
conduct an Entrepreneurship Development Workshop for the students of the North East
States of the country.
